Reflections Untrue (Quick Food for Thought)
We all have said something to the degree of, "Damn he/she is fine!" or "I would want to be that person for just one day!", but how many times after the discovery of our affinity (even for a split second) have we actually stopped and thought about that person or their lifestyle? The answer is probably almost never and that it was just a passing moment.
As we all know everything that glitters isn't gold, we still find ourselves (though it is never admitted) wanting a piece of someone else-whether it is something physical or it is a characteristic or quality. Ironically the visual or quality that catches our attention sometimes is a visage. Celebrities are known for this. They appear to have it all-money, attention from all-pretty much almost anything they want they can get. Close the doors and they are anorexic, alcoholics, drug-abusers, murderers, rapists and much more. The attractive female that turns heads could be in an abusive relationship but hides it by what she wears or how much she drinks or smokes. That guy that catches your eye may have HIV thus given the perfect opportunity, he will be more than happy to pass it onto you. Your co-worker who is embraced by all is climbing the corporate ladder very quickly and appears to be on the right side of his career but at what expense? He goes home every night after work to a cocktail of alcohol and anti-depressants all because the stress of keeping all of his superiors satisfied is unbearable.
Admiring is cool. Gawking at what you like is cool as well. Just think how many people would be turn-offs if we really knew their story at first glance!
“Deception is a cruel act... It often has many players on different stages that corrode the soul.” -Donna A. Favors(Member of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Institute, 1955)
